RIP, Schneider. Pat Harrington, the actor who played the character on the sitcom One Day at a Time, has died at age 86. His daughter announced the news via Facebook. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's. Harrington played what the Washington Post aptly describes as a "farcically macho building superintendent" on the show, which ran from 1975 to 1984. It starred Bonnie Franklin as a single mom with two teenage daughters, played by Valerie Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips. Harrington, who more recently had made appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Hot in Cleveland, won an Emmy for the role in 1984, notes NBC News.

"At first, Schneider was pretty much a lecher," Harrington once told People. "I made sure that got changed to 'amorous.' It bespeaks a certain respect for women." After the show was off the air, creator Norman Lear credited the comedian with being its "comic strength," notes the Post. (More obituary stories.)
