Two Toronto women fleeing a deranged attacker were saved by a clown who had more than enough room in his car. Doo Doo the Clown tells the Toronto Star that he was still in full clown costume Sunday afternoon when he spotted an apparently disturbed man jumping on cars and called 911. As Doo Doo watched, the man shoved one of two women walking toward him and then began to chase them down the street. "I screamed and screamed like 20 times, 'Get in my car,'" the clown tells the Star. He says that after the women jumped into the backseat—joining two fellow clowns that he had been driving to a train station—"the guy went crazy," kicking and punching the car. He managed to rip off a mirror before police arrived and subdued him.
Doo Doo, also known as Shane Farberman, tells CP24 that he didn't realize until later that the women must have found it "very bizarre" to have a clown in full make-up screaming at them, though they got in the car without hesitation. "I've been doing this for 32 years, so I forget that I'm in costume when I'm out there in between shows," he says. Farberman was joined by his two children at city hall on Monday when a councilman presented him with a commendation for bravery, telling him he wasn't "clowning around" when courage was called for, the Star reports. CP24 reports that the attacker, a 25-year-old man, has been charged with assault and police believe he was on illegal drugs during the incident. (The US may soon face a clown shortage, though France still has plenty of evil ones.)
