Hugely Popular App Lets You Tap a Cactus
Tap the cactus.   (Blimps LLC)

A $10 app has become so popular it's now ranked among the top 10 paid entertainment apps on iTunes, reports FeedsWatcher, and it consists of nothing more than an image of a cactus that, when tapped, emits emojis—a dollar sign, leaf, tongue, briefcase, etc. The folks at Blimps LLC who developed the app, which is called Lucky Cactus, don't go so far as to promise good fortune, but the mantra-like description says: "maybe it will / tap it / money, love, power, whatever you want / tap it / maybe it could all be yours." There's even a $3.99 Lucky Cactus Mini version for those who haven't had, er, previous luck in the money department, reports Vice.

User feedback is pretty favorable, with an average of 3.5 stars on the iTunes Store and 3 on Google Play. And while some commenters are obvious fakes, a good number suggest that users suddenly found themselves avoiding near-death experiences and doing something they really wanted to. "The common denominator in all of the posts was a sudden positive change in attitude," reports the Link, which recalls Harry Potter pretending to give Liquid Luck to Ron before Quidditch team tryouts, and Ron, who simply believes he's wielding great powers, suddenly performing brilliantly. In other words, there's a lesson about attitude to be learned. Or, as one Reddit user laments, "I think I speak on behalf of all iOS developers when I say what the f--k... Why didn't I think of this." (Check out what was in this fortune cookie.)
