One of the three Americans who helped stop an apparent terror attack aboard a French train is hospitalized in Sacramento after being stabbed, reports KCRA. The details on what happened to Spencer Stone are fuzzy, but police say the assault took place about 12:45am outside a stretch of popular bars, apparently during an argument. Stone, 23, was stabbed multiple times, according to the station, and was listed in stable condition. The Air Force Times reports that Stone, an Airman 1st Class, was stabbed four times in the chest. Initially, homicide detectives arrived at the scene because Stone wasn't expected to live. "There’s no motive," says a police officer, per the Los Angeles Times. "It appears to be a random deal."
The officer says Stone was leaving one of the local establishments when he got into an argument with an "unknown suspect." Given Stone's recent heroics, Sacramento police felt compelled to issue a statement declaring that "the assault incident is not related to a terrorist act. Assault occurred near a bar, alcohol is believed to be a factor." No arrests have been made, and police haven't issued any description of the attacker, reports the Sacramento Bee. In August, Stone and friends Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler were hailed as heroes for stopping a gunman on their train bound for Paris. Stone was the first to tackle him, and his injuries included a nearly severed thumb. (More stabbing stories.)
