More disturbing details have surfaced in the Baby Doe case ahead of a court hearing today. A law enforcement source tells CNN that 2-year-old Bella Bond was punched by her mother's boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, because he believed the little girl was possessed. Investigation insiders tell the Boston Globe that Bella's mother, Rachelle Bond, has said McCarthy punched the girl in the stomach until she died. The sources say that Bella's body, which washed up on a Boston Harbor beach in June, was refrigerated for some time before it was disposed of. McCarthy has been charged with murder and Bond has been charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact. Both are due in court today, CNN reports.
Joseph Amoroso, Bella's father, tells the Globe that Bond has told him McCarthy used to be good with the little girl before he became convinced that she was possessed by demons. After the murder, Amoroso says, McCarthy kept telling Bond that the girl was the "child of Satan." The father, who says he believes Bond's version of events, tells the Globe that he only learned what happened to his daughter last week after he came to Boston from Florida to see her for the first time. He says Bond told him she was held captive by McCarthy, who allegedly injected her with heroin against her will.
