Two people have been arrested in Boston's "Baby Doe" case: Rachelle Bond, the mother of the little girl found dead on a Boston Harbor shoreline in June, and Bond's boyfriend, Michael McCarthy. Their arrests come after authorities finally identified "Baby Doe" as Bella Bond; McCarthy is not Bond's biological father, CNN reports. He has been charged with murder, while Rachelle Bond has been charged as an accessory after the fact. Bella was almost 3 years old when she was killed, the AP reports.
The state Department of Children and Families says that between 2001 and 2006, Bond's parental rights over two other children were terminated by child welfare authorities; one of those children was adopted by an unrelated family, while the other is in the maternal grandmother's custody. Then, in 2012 and 2013, the department provided services for an infant Bella after receiving neglect complaints. But, the agency says, it hadn't had a case related to the family in more than two years. (More murder stories.)
