The star of a Discovery Channel reality show is hoping his Florida neighbors will keep an eye out for his lost pet, WESH reports. Oh, it should be mentioned his lost pet is an 8-foot-long king cobra with enough venom to kill an elephant with one bite. "It's horrible that this has happened," Mike Kennedy of Airplane Repo tells CNN. "It has been incredibly traumatic for me and my family." He says the snake managed to escape its cage when a tree limb fell onto his house during a storm and caused flooding. Kennedy, who is licensed to keep exotic animals, reported the snake missing yesterday, though it escaped sometime Tuesday, WESH reports. He may face punishment for not immediately reporting the missing cobra.

Neighbors and a nearby elementary school went on alert as news of the missing king cobra spread. WESH reports the school moved outdoor activities and portable classrooms inside while one parent was left to wonder why sex predators can't live near a school but actual predators can. Another neighbor wasn't taking any chances: "I'm going to go load my guns," he tells WESH. "Well, they're already loaded, but I'm going to have them ready for sure." But Kennedy thinks people are overreacting. "Getting struck by lightning is much more likely than being hurt by this animal," he tells CNN. Both Kennedy and the state have teams out hunting for the cobra. (More cobra stories.)
