MSNBC today picked rising star David Gregory to helm a new political show in place of Tucker Carlson's low-rated "Tucker", TVNewser reports. Gregory's "Race for the White House" will air at 6 p.m. weekdays while he continues to report on the White House for NBC News and fill in for Matt Lauer on "Today", the New York Times reports.
Carlson, who cut his teeth on CNN's "Crossfire," will remain MSNBC's chief campaign correspondent. MSNBC also announced a new election news program on weekday afternoons, led by political reporter Andrea Mitchell, in place of regular news programming. (More MSNBC stories.)
