Three kids are in critical condition after yet another truck full of dehydrated migrants was found in Austria today, reports Reuters. That's on the heels of the discovery of 71 decomposing bodies earlier this week. Meanwhile, the capsizing of two boats in the Mediterranean has killed more than 115 and counting. As the plight of people fleeing wars in the Mideast and Africa seems to grow worse by the day, here are seven stories to help make sense of what's happening in Europe:

  • Traveling in Europe's River of Migrants, New York Times: A team of journalists from the paper provides vignettes as they follow migrants' travels.
  • Why is EU struggling with migrants and asylum? The BBC: A primer on what's going on, where the migrants are coming from, and how European nations are responding (or failing to respond).

  • The migrant crisis is dividing Germany all over again, the Washington Post: The nation's east-west split is being exacerbated by the migrant crisis, with foreigners far more likely to be attacked in the east.
  • Where to house Europe's migrants? the AP: The short piece looks at some of the alternative solutions being used to provide the migrants a place to sleep, including schools, barracks, and parks.
  • A week in Europe's migrant crisis—a visual guide, the Guardian: The piece supplements this week's news with photos, maps, and graphics.
  • Let them in and let them earn, the Economist. The magazine argues that Europe needs a "bigger welcome mat," not tighter restrictions.
  • While migrants die and Europe drags its feet, smugglers continue to make a buck, PRI: A look at how profit-making traffickers are exploiting the crisis.
