In a bizarre, self-pitying jailhouse interview with KTRK, David Conley tries to portray himself as the real victim and says the six children he's accused of murdering "were growing up to be monsters." Conley served time in prison for assaults on Valerie Jackson—who was also killed along with her husband—and he complains that he has been "controlled" by women. "All ladies, any little thing I do, they want to call the police on me," he says. "I'm an ex-felon and threatened all the time." He continues, "All these people are dead, but Valerie wasn't a Good Samaritan" and complains that his estranged girlfriend and her husband "did evil things all the time."

Conley wouldn't discuss the murders, but he says he was angry about being locked out of the house and that he had been disrespected by the children, the youngest of whom was 6. "I was doing my part as God asked me to do. God asked me to help them," he says. "God says in the Bible thou shall not disrespect thy mother and thy father. I'm highly spiritual. I'm not crazy. I'm not like that." Conley's 13-year-old son Nathaniel was among the victims, and Conley tells KTRK that he loves the boy "to death." The children spent a few weeks in state custody after reports of abuse in 2013, and KHOU reports that Conley could have been locked up for life in 2002 after being charged with felony retaliation against Jackson—but she recanted her testimony and he ended up with a five-year sentence.
