One of two Oklahoma brothers charged in the stabbing deaths of his parents and three siblings told police that plans for the attack were on a USB flash drive in a bedroom of the family's home in Broken Arrow, according to an affidavit for a search warrant filed yesterday in district court. It doesn't say whether Robert Bever, 18, or his 16-year-old brother, Michael, made the statement, only that it was "spontaneously uttered" by the brother during his arrest. The affidavit doesn't offer any description about the alleged plans. But an investigator wrote that authorities would likely find evidence inside the home, including electronic devices that could store "information on the planning and execution of a mass homicide," dark and bloodstained clothes, a mask and gloves, and "sharp-edged weapons," such as knives, swords, and machetes.
Investigators also requested DNA evidence from the brothers, who are charged with first-degree murder in the July 22 attack. A judge has entered not-guilty pleas for them. Authorities have not commented on a possible motive. Also yesterday, police released a summary of the 911 call they believe was placed by one of two younger boys before both were killed. An account begins at 11:33pm, when a dispatcher mentions an attack. A male on the line then said "hello" and the line went dead. The log notes there was "a lot of screaming in the background and I could hear someone trying to be quiet and crying." The arriving officer describes a "stabbing," saying "son/brother armed with knife," before noting five deaths and an injured 13-year-old girl; the boy's dying 911 call is thought to have saved her life.
