Jim Gilmore has filed the necessary paperwork to run for president, reports the Wall Street Journal. He plans a formal announcement next week. Gilmore served as governor from 1998 to 2002, and his resume also includes stints as an Army intelligence specialist, Virginia attorney general, and chair of the Republican National Committee in 2001. In an earlier interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Gilmore stressed concerns about national security and the economy. "I don't think we're addressing the threat to the country," the 65-year-old told the newspaper. "I bring to the table experience that others don't have." A quick bio at ABC News says his "claim to fame" is that he headed the Gilmore Commission under presidents Clinton and George W. Bush, which advised the White House on how to handle terror incidents in the US involving weapons of mass destruction. Gilmore sits on the board of the NRA and is president of a conservative think tank he founded called the Free Congress Foundation. ABC also notes that he's bilingual—Gilmore speaks fluent German from his Army days in the 1970s. (More Jim Gilmore stories.) Report an error
