In a case that has gripped Australia since 2006, two lesbian lovers—one with a vampire fixation—were sentenced to at least 24 years in prison today for murdering a teenage girl, the West Australian reports. They bludgeoned and strangled the girl and kissed over her body, taking video on a mobile phone. The pair showed little emotion as the sentence was read.
Valerie Parashumti, now 19, and Jessica Stasinowsky, 21, said the killing of Stacey Mitchell took more than 45 minutes, but Stanisowsky told a prison official she wished she’d spent more time and “done a better job.” The judge said the horror of the crime was worsened by the pair's apparent lack of shame; he forbade contact between them during their incarceration.
