US / Ohio River 2 Dead, 3 Missing as Boat Hits Ky. Bridge, Capsizes One of missing is thought to be a small child By Newser Editors and Wire Services Posted Jul 5, 2015 9:13 AM CDT Copied Police officers look on as an overturned pontoon boat is pulled out of the water of the Ohio River Saturday, July 4, 2015, in Louisville, Ky. (Nathan Davis, WHAS-TV via AP) Kentucky authorities say two people were killed and three remain missing after the pontoon boat they were riding in hit the Clark Memorial Bridge and capsized in the Ohio River. Louisville Fire Chief Greg Frederick told WHAS-TV that nine people were aboard the boat and that four were rescued after the accident late last night. He said one of the three missing people is assumed to be child. Three victims were sent to Korsair Children's Hospital and are in stable condition. A fourth person was sent to University Hospital but their condition was not immediately known. Frederick says the current of the Ohio River was too swift to send dive teams into the water. Crews had to search for the missing on the surface of the water. (It's been a perilous week for boaters: A flying sturgeon killed a 5-year-old girl boating with her family in Florida.) Report an error
