The State Department has shared 1,925 emails, totaling more than 3,000 pages, from Hillary Clinton's personal email account in 2009, reports CNN. Along with apparently disclosing Clinton's fondness for iced tea, they reveal some intriguing and, well, odd developments.

  1. Obama's top aides knew of her private email use: David Axelrod, in charge of Obama's image, emailed Clinton at her personal account after she hurt her elbow in a fall. "You are an all-star player, and we need you for the long run!" he wrote. Rahm Emanuel, then the White House's chief of staff, also asked for her email address; Clinton told her staff to give it to him.

  1. She may have written in code: Communications with her closest staffers mention meetings with someone called "Santa," report Reuters and CNN. After arranging to call Center for American Progress chief John Podesta, Clinton oddly told him in an email, "Please wear socks to bed to keep your feet warm."
  2. She had trouble fitting in: During her first year at the State Department, Clinton worried what people would think about her only seeing the president "at least once a week." There were also times Clinton arrived at meetings, only to find out they'd been canceled. "I arrived for the 10:15 mtg and was told there was no mtg," she wrote to aides. "This is the second time this has happened. What's up???"
  3. She was close with Sidney Blumenthal: A former aide of her husband, Blumenthal offered advice on everything from Iran to her speeches, apparently as a friend. He also appeared to act as an intermediary between Clinton and officials involved in the Northern Ireland peace process. Her attempts to get him a State job failed because Obama's corner believed he spread rumors about Obama in 2008, per Politico.
  4. She wasn't friends with the fax machine: An exchange with longtime aide Huma Abedin showcases Clinton's difficulty trying to receive a fax, reports Gizmodo. "I thought it was supposed to be off hook to work?" she wrote. She was eventually told, "Just pick up phone and hang it up. And leave it hung up."
