Ghost hunters hoping to explore Mississippi's abandoned Kuhn Memorial State Hospital, considered one of the most haunted sites in the state, instead happened upon a real-life crime scene. Vicksburg Police say the group found the body of missing woman Sharon Wilson, 69, outside of the hospital on Sunday, alongside a trail of blood, reports the Clarion-Ledger. Her body showed evidence of head trauma. "You could tell where they had dragged someone down from the second floor in the middle of the building, to a grassy area on the left side of the hospital," says a man with the Mississippi Paranormal Research Institute. "On the steps, that's where most of the blood was." Police arrested Raphael McCloud, 33, and his nephew, Akeem McCloud, 20.
Police say the suspects were pulled over on suspicion of reckless driving earlier Sunday in Leland. During the traffic stop, officers realized the 2012 Nissan Murano they were driving actually belonged to Wilson, reports WAPT. But when officers went to check on her at her home, "she was not there," police say. A gun found in the vehicle had been reported stolen. Authorities say Raphael McCloud, who was already known to police, was soon after transferred back to Vicksburg, where he confessed to robbing Wilson, kidnapping her from her home late Saturday, and killing her before placing her body outside the hospital. Police are now trying to bring Akeem McCloud back to the area and are working to determine a motive. No charges have yet been laid, police say. (More murder stories.)
