President Obama emerged victorious in the Rose Garden this morning to applaud the Supreme Court's 6-3 ruling to uphold federal subsidies for the Affordable Care Act. In a speech that ran just over 10 minutes long, the president praised the decision, saying that "after multiple challenges before the Supreme Court, the Affordable Care Act is here to stay," per the Hill. Other words he had on the matter:

  • He wasn't "gloating," CNN commentators noted, but Obama was clearly making a point to all of his detractors when he noted for all the talk of "death panels," "misinformation," and attempts at repeal, "this law is now helping tens of millions of Americans," the Daily Kos reports. He added that the law has "never been a government takeover of health care," per CNBC, and that "this law is working. And it's going to keep doing just that."

  • In a comparison to Social Security and Medicare, the president said that ObamaCare "has now been woven into the fabric of America" and had already succeeded in insuring more than 16 million Americans, per the Daily Kos.
  • In an olive branch of sorts, Obama says his "greatest hope" is to work with both Democrats and Republicans rather than "fight the same battles" over and over. "Let's join together and make health care in America even better," he implored.
  • "Rooting for each other's success," after all, is "what we do," he concluded. "And that's the whole point of public service. This was a good day for America. Let's get back to work."
