Haley Smith faces a slew of charges after a car accident, but she really has no cause to complain: Her car was literally cut in half, and she escaped relatively unscathed. And so did her unborn baby—the 20-year-old is pregnant. Authorities in Lincolnton, NC, say Smith may have been going as fast as 100mph when she hit rumble strips on the side of the road, overcorrected, drove across the median, and got smacked by an SUV. The impact severed her Honda Accord behind the driver's seat, and Smith was found unconscious but still buckled in, reports the Lincoln Herald. She's already out of the hospital after the Wednesday crash, reports WBTV.
"Everybody says God watches out for everybody, but sometimes in wrecks like that, it's pretty obvious some people are just lucky," firefighter Mike Shrum tells WCNC. (The driver of the SUV was apparently wasn't seriously injured, either.) Smith's pregnancy isn't far along: Shrum says he stepped on a positive pregnancy test in the wreckage. She was charged with reckless driving, driving with unsafe tires, and having drug paraphernalia in her car, though she denies the latter belonged to her. (More car accident stories.)
