Obama, McCain Win in Vermont

Barack Obama and John McCain won their primaries in Vermont tonight, the Burlington Free Press reports. For Obama, it's his 12th straight political victory over Hillary Clinton, though the bigger focus comes later tonight when voters in Ohio and Texas weigh in. Rhode Island also votes. McCain, meanwhile, edges closer to officially securing the GOP nomination, which he could do tonight.

Exit polling in Vermont showed that voters consider the war in Iraq to be almost as important as the economy—39% saying the economy and 38% the war. Of those for whom the war is the No. 1 issue, Obama polled 74% to Clinton's 24%. Voters also saw him as the better commander in chief, and more inspirational. Vermont has suffered the highest per capita losses in Iraq of any state, NBC reports. Obama won across nearly all demographics here, including women and white voters. (More Vermont stories.)
