A judge in New York's Orange County will hear arguments today on whether 35-year-old murder suspect Angelika Graswald deserves bail, reports the Poughkeepsie Journal. She's accused of killing fiance Vincent Viafore, 46, while the two were kayaking on the Hudson River last month, though his body still hasn't been recovered. The New York Times today revisits the high-profile case and notes that an interview Graswald gave to News 12 suggests two key elements of the case: She said police had found her diary, in which she wrote that she wished Viafore were dead because he wanted to have a threesome, and she said police suspected she had tampered with Viafore's kayak. It still hasn't turned up.
Graswald's attorney tells the Times the kayak had been missing a plug in its stern for a while, but it still floated fine. He also takes issue with the notion that Graswald made several social media posts in the aftermath of Viafore's death that don't seem in keeping with a grieving fiancee—including a video clip of herself doing a cartwheel. She was just trying to put on a brave face, he says. As for the ominous diary entry, lots of people complain about their partners, he notes.
