Creepy Lucy Statue to Be Moved

The residents of Celoron, NY, will no longer have to live with a creepy bronze statue of Lucille Ball (or, at least, that's who it's supposed to look like). After citizens of Lucy's hometown campaigned to have the frightening 400-pound sculpture removed, the board of trustees voted yesterday—unanimously—to send it to nearby Jamestown, NY, where it will be on display at the National Comedy Center opening next year. The chairman of the center specifically asked for the statue, the New York Times reports. "We are excited to embrace the statue in a different light," he says. "Not as a likeness of Lucille Ball, but as a tribute to what she was all about—making people laugh." Celoron, which will technically retain ownership of "Scary Lucy," will get a replacement statue before she's sent away. (More strange stuff stories.)
