Baby kangaroos are supposed to be with their mothers until they're at least a year old, say worried staff at the Special Memories Zoo in Wisconsin. But a baby kangaroo was stolen right from its mother's pouch at the zoo's winter holding facility last week, and the zoo has pleaded for its return, along with four baby goats that were also taken, NBC News reports. "They need correct care. The baby kangaroo, unless it’s being hand-raised, it needs Mom," a worker at the zoo in Greenville tells WBAY. "They need the correct formula. They need the correct care. The goats are being [bottle-fed]. They're not old enough to be on their own."
The zoo's owner says the kangaroo's mother was injured when the 5-month-old baby was taken from its pouch. "There's just bad people in the world," she tells NBC. "It's very, very upsetting." Police are investigating, and while they don't have any leads, they believe it will be hard for the thieves to hide the stolen animals now that the theft has been made public, WBAY reports. "If you took them, just bring them back," a zoo worker tells the station. "I mean, our main concern is the animals. We just want them to be healthy. We want them back where they belong."
