Pomp and ... Patience: 5 Most Uplifting Stories
Clearview High School guidance counselor Jean Branzel shows 80-year-old Susan Bostik Reynolds her high school diploma.   (REV-SHARE)

A mature high school graduate and a modest church donation were among the week's good-news reads:

  • She Gets Her Diploma After 63 Years: When 80-year-old Susan Bostik Reynolds went to Clearview High School with her family this week, her kids surprised her with the news that the school was giving her a diploma, 63 years late. The reason she didn't get one in 1952 is almost comically absurd.
  • Good Samaritan Goes to Extremes: A 26-year-old woman in South Carolina desperate to find a kidney turned to Reddit as a last resort. Boy, did she find the right Redditor.

  • Church Gets 'Simple but Powerful' Gift: A church in North Carolina received an envelope in the offering plate with a unique donation: One dime, one nickel, and three pennies. But the donor had a good reason, and the church is anything but miffed. In fact, the pastor thinks it's a lesson for the rest of us.
  • Nepal Miracle: Teen Rescued After 5 Days: Jubilant rescuers pulled an 18-year-old man from the remains of a Kathmandu building, five days after it collapsed around him. As they got near Pemba Tamang, he had a perfect reaction.
  • Girl's Dog Found After 3 Years and 1K Miles: A Yorkshire terrier picked up as a stray in Iowa was reunited with the 14-year-old girl from whom he was stolen in 2012—1,000 miles away in New Orleans. Karisa Lambert was tearful, while buddy Sam was anything but.
