A teen armed with a crossbow killed a teacher this morning in a rare attack in Spain, according to reports. The teen, who has been arrested, is said to be 13 years old, reports the BBC, which notes that the age of criminal responsibility in Spain is 14. It's not clear whether he was a student at the Barcelona school where the incident occurred. The boy was also armed with a weapon with a blade, a police rep says, though the AP notes they haven't said what kind. Spanish reports suggest the boy had both a crossbow and a knife. Four other people have reportedly been injured.
Based on Spanish media, the Local reports that the boy may have attacked a female teacher as well as her daughter, a student. The teacher who was killed—a male who may have been a substitute—hurried to the scene after hearing screams. Another student has suggested the boy had a weapon collection and wanted to kill all the school's teachers, the Local reports. A teachers' union head says this appears to be the first time a student in the country has ever killed a teacher. A license is required to buy a crossbow in Spain, the Local notes.
