Rahm Emanuel Wins Chicago Mayoral Runoff

Rahm Emanuel will get another term as Chicago mayor. With about 76% of the votes counted in their runoff election, he led challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia by 56% to 44%, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. Garcia already has called Emanuel to concede the race, one the Chigago Tribune describes "as the nation's latest proxy battle between establishment Democrats, represented by the mayor, and progressives, who backed Garcia." The benefits of "establishment"? Emanuel raised $23 million to Garcia's $6 million. Still, Garcia managed to force the city's first-ever runoff. Turnout was about 40%, and both newspapers credit an improved Emanuel "ground game" for the victory. (More Rahm Emanuel stories.)
