A 22-year-old National Guard soldier was arrested at Chicago's Midway Airport last night and his 29-year-old cousin has been arrested at his Aurora, Ill., home. The allegations against them: that the former planned to fly to Cairo with the aim of helping ISIS, while his cousin stayed behind and carried out an attack on US soil. Army National Guard Specialist Hasan Edmonds and his cousin, Jonas Edmonds, reportedly met with an undercover FBI employee, shared their alleged plan, and sought assistance, reports the Sun-Times.
The US Attorney's office says in a press release that after Hasan had left the US, the plan was to have Jonas use Hasan's "uniforms and the information he supplied about how to access the installation"—an unnamed military facility north of Chicago—"and target officers for attack." How Assistant Attorney General John Carlin framed it: "Disturbingly, one of the defendants currently wears the same uniform of those they allegedly planned to attack." The men are due in court this afternoon. (More ISIS stories.)
