When a 33-foot-long tunnel appeared near York University in Toronto, police were initially stumped. Not anymore, though the rest of us are still mostly in the dark. After cops did a little digging (pardon the pun), they learned the story behind the tunnel—which they say is a harmless one, the Toronto Star reports. Two guys "built the tunnel for personal reasons" and without "criminal intent nor any threat to the people or city of Toronto," police say.
"We've had murders where the million-dollar question is 'Why?' and you never really get to that, you just figure out who did it and how they did it, and that's where we're at now with it—the who and how is covered," says a detective. "It's very weird, but we have to take them as we've learned, and it was personal reasons." The tip came after the story prompted extensive media coverage, the CBC reports. That led to the identification of the men involved, and the case has been closed. (More Toronto stories.)
