For the third day in a row, there's a new question mark over Bill O'Reilly's record, this time involving his reporting from the LA riots. O'Reilly has repeatedly claimed that he came under a "bombardment" of bricks and stones while covering the 1992 riots, but six Inside Edition team members tell the Guardian they remember no such bombardment—and several of them believe O'Reilly may be referring to an incident in which one man threw one brick at a camera, having been provoked by O'Reilly acting like a "jackass." The crew members say the man was infuriated when O'Reilly arrived in a limousine in a wrecked neighborhood where fires were still smoldering, and became angrier when O'Reilly's driver started polishing the car.
According to crew members, the man shouted abuse at O'Reilly's team and "lost it" when O'Reilly asked, "Don't you know who I am?" The man kicked over a light and threw the brick, which smashed a camera, and then was taunted by O'Reilly as a reporter held him back, crew members tell the Guardian. A police unit was alerted, and officers escorted the man home and told the Inside Edition crew to leave, but crew members say the incident was nothing like the police rescue or hail of missiles that O'Reilly has spoken of. Fox addressed the latest report with the same statement of "staunch support" of O'Reilly it issued after questions over his statements on a JFK-linked suicide and seeing nuns gunned down in El Salvador, Politico reports.
