The latest drama surrounding the McMath family: A New Jersey landlord says they didn't pay two months' rent. Some of the family is living in New Jersey with Jahi McMath, the teen girl left brain dead after a routine tonsillectomy last year, while the rest of the family remains in Oakland. The San Jose Mercury News reports that the family first took Jahi to a New Jersey hospital, then, in October, moved her into a nearby apartment, where she is hooked up to machines that provide sustenance and keep her organs working. Her mother, stepfather, and younger sister also live in the apartment along with nurses. They've never said where that apartment is, but a landlord at a Somerset building has filed a complaint stating the family owes $3,375 in rent and associated fees and seeking to have them removed.

Though a court hearing is set for Feb. 27, the McMath's attorney expects the matter to be settled by today. Christopher Dolan says that while " somebody didn't pay" the December and January rent, it's now been paid; he goes so far as to call it an "administrative error." But he admits to the newspaper that the family is "basically broke." "They are struggling to get by on a regular basis," he says. "They are trying to care for their daughter and keep their sanity." Donations continue to come in for the family; a GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $63,000 so far, and an update from two months ago claimed Jahi was still "improving." (More Jahi McMath stories.)
