5 Best Apologies of the Week

A look at some of the apologies that made headlines this week:

• Hitler comparison: “I need to apologize to all those offended by my tweet. It was not my intention to trivialize the Holocaust nor to compare the President to Adolf Hitler.”—Rep. Randy Weber, a GOP congressman from Texas, apologizing after playing the Hitler card to criticize Obama for not going to Paris.
• Showering habits: "It was supposed to be a joke, but I apologize if anyone was offended."—Glee star Naya Rivera, who declared on the View that showering daily is "such a white people thing" and incurred the wrath of the Internet.

• 100% Muslim: "My comments on FoxNews about Birmingham were totally inaccurate. Birmingham, please accept my apology; I was wrong."—Steven Emerson, US author and self-described terrorism expert, who declared that in Britain, "there are actual cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim, where non-Muslims just simply don't go in."
• Tough justice: "After reviewing the file today I have concluded that my office's request to have an arrest warrant issued was a mistake under the circumstances. Knowing the child's age, the charged offense, and other circumstances in the case, we should have attempted this other option."—Barry McHugh, Idaho prosecutor, whose office had a 9-year-old boy accused of stealing a pack of gum arrested.
• Good dog: "I assure you that at no time did I intend to shoot Biko or harm him in any way. ... I'm hopeful that everyone can find it in their hearts to accept my sincere and heartfelt apology."—Harold Kaufman, police chief in Midlothian, Illinois, after he complained that he was "going to be stuck with either going and shooting the dog and killing it or finding somewhere to put it" because the K-9 officer had quit.
