Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson isn't your typical late-night host, but he is in fact getting his own TV talk show series on the National Geographic Channel. Star Talk, which will debut in April and air weekly, be taped before a live studio audience at New York City's Hayden Planetarium, and likely feature Tyson talking about science and pop culture with scientists, celebrities, and comedians. Bill Nye will even get a minute-long segment for "ranting" during each show, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which compares the bit to Andy Rooney's similar one on 60 Minutes.
"To be able to continue to spread wonder and excitement through Star Talk, which is a true passion project for me, is beyond exciting," says Tyson, who hosted Cosmos last year. He notes that Star Talk already exists as a podcast, and the TV show's format will be similar. "After the global success of Cosmos as one of the most watched series in our history, we are thrilled to be partnering with Neil again on Star Talk ... once again satisfying the audience's passion for adventure and exploration," says the CEO of the channel. (Tyson, meanwhile, has been stirring up a little controversy of late.)
