A sweet use for a new technology and a generous holiday helper are among the week's uplifting stories:

  • Dog Can Finally Run, Thanks to 3D-Printed Legs: Derby is a husky mix born last year with deformed front paws. Lucky for him, he got a foster mom who happens to work at a company that specializes in 3D printing, and that union has resulted in a YouTube smash.
  • Mystery Donor Handing Out $100 Bills: A nice tradition is unfolding in Hyannis, Mass.: An anonymous man has been visiting fast-food shops and handing over $100 to each employee. No word on his identity, but he seems to like coffee.
  • Pope Hands Out Sleeping Bags to Homeless on His Birthday: Pope Francis celebrated his 78th birthday this week by donating 400 sleeping bags to homeless people around Rome. And he's got more help in store for them.

  • #illridewithyou Triumphs Amid Hostage Situation: In the midst of a deadly hostage situation in Sydney, Australia, an encouraging storyline emerged: Australians came out en masse on social media to proclaim that intolerance will not be tolerated. The #illridewithyou hashtag rapidly went viral, reportedly after a woman offered her support to Muslim train rider.
  • As Brothers Bicker on TV, Mom Calls In: As pundits Brad Woodhouse and brother Dallas sparred on TV from opposite ends of the political spectrum, an unexpected peacemaker phoned in: their mom. She asked her boys to take it easy on each other around the holidays.
