Cops: Guy Shoplifted ... at 'Shop With a Cop' Event

Pro tip for would-be thieves: It's probably not a good idea to attempt shoplifting ... during a "Shop with a Cop" event. That's what police say Grant Scott Timm of Lecanto, Fla., did last Wednesday night at the city's Walmart, according to the Citrus County Chronicle. The Sheriff's Office hosts the shopping event, which involves deputies and firefighters shopping for Christmas gifts with underprivileged kids.

One of the deputies saw Timm acting suspiciously, and the 35-year-old was allegedly caught shoplifting; he was detained in the parking lot and charged with retail petit theft with a value of $100 or less after allegedly taking steaks and a bicycle computer from the store. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after authorities say they found unprescribed methadone tablets with him. (More weird crimes stories.)
