Details are filtering out from yesterday's collision between two school buses in Knoxville, Tenn., that killed two kids and one adult. Among the more wrenching is that one of the children killed, 6-year Zykia Burns, had a twin brother on the same bus who wondered why his sister didn't get off the vehicle after the accident, reports the Knoxville News Sentinel. An uncle broke the news to Zyquese last night. The boy had been sitting next to teacher's aide Kimberly Riddle, 46, who also was killed. The third fatality was 7-year-old Seraya Glasper.
Two more children were seriously injured, as was one of the bus drivers, reports AP. As for Zykia, an aunt says she had been allowed to skip first grade. “She was so smart, you had to watch what you said around her," she says. "Like a sponge.” Authorities still don't know what caused one school bus to cross the median of Asheville Highway and strike the other. WBIR talks to fifth-grader Joy Reinmann, who recalls the aftermath. "Everyone just started crying, so I went over there hugging Lexi, my friend," she says. "Her nose was bleeding and her lip, and oh my gosh, everyone was just crying. So I went and hugged everyone." (More bus crash stories.)
