Reports of two arrests in Ferguson don't bode well for calm once a grand jury decision is announced in the Michael Brown shooting. Reuters quotes a law enforcement source as saying that two men who belong to the New Black Panther Party were caught trying to buy material for pipe bombs. Brandon Orlando Baldwin and Olajuwon Davis also were charged with trying to buy two pistols illegally, reports CBS News. The arrests earlier this week were the result of an FBI sting, and it's unclear how close to reality the bomb plot was. It remains anyone's guess when the big grand jury announcement will come on whether officer Darren Wilson will face charges.
The AP notes that a St. Louis County spokesperson declined to answer late yesterday when asked whether the panel was still meeting, suggesting the grand jury might be done. The New York Times, meanwhile, talks to men who took part in the original protests and finds that many will likely skip whatever protests arise this time, partly because of the expected heavy police presence and the likelihood of arrest. And Brown's family has called for calm, with attorney Anthony Gray saying the "city is really in a panic at this point," reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. (Wilson, meanwhile, is expected to leave the police force if exonerated.)
