Charles Manson may be an 80-year-old mass murderer serving life in prison, but somebody loves him—and that somebody plans to marry the guy, the AP reports. Manson and Afton Burton, a 26-year-old Midwesterner who goes by "Star," have a marriage license that's valid for the next 90 days. "Y'all can know that it's true," says Burton. "It's going to happen. I love him. I'm with him. There's all kinds of things." Burton moved out to Corcoran, Calif., nine years ago to be near Manson's prison, and has a few websites up maintaining his innocence and supporting his environmental causes, Rolling Stone reported last year. But with Manson unable to have family visits (that's the discreet term for conjugal visits), why tie the knot?

Burton says she can do more as a wife to help him, like getting information that non-relatives can't access. "There's certain things next of kin can do," she adds. But Manson told Rolling Stone that the marriage thing was all bunk: "Oh that," he says. "That's a bunch of garbage. You know that, man. That's trash. We're just playing that for public consumption." Burton's reaction: "None of that's true," she tells the AP. As for the license, the state says that a coordinator is assigned to each wedding request, and decides whether the matrimony would aid "family reunification and social development." Manson may need some of that: A career criminal, he became world-famous in 1969 by taking part in the murder of seven people over two nights in the LA area. (More Charles Manson stories.)
