Rush Limbaugh has lawyered up and has none other than the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in his litigious sights—over its use of his own words, reports the Washington Post. On Limbaugh's Sept. 15 radio show, he tackled the subject of Ohio State University's policy requiring students to get verbal consent before having sex thusly:
- "How many of you guys, in your own experience with women, have learned that ‘no’ means ‘yes’ if you know how to spot it? I’m probably ... Let me tell you something, in this modern [world], that is simply, that’s not tolerated. People aren’t even going to try to understand that one. It used to be said as a cliche, it used to be part of the advice young boys were given. See, that’s what we’ve got to change. We have got to reprogram the way we raise men. So now ... permission every step of the way, clearly spelling out ‘why.’ [Are] these [policies] not lawsuits waiting to happen if even one of these steps is not taken?"
The DCCC wasted little time in sending out fundraising emails that called Limbaugh out over what DCCC chair Steve Israel called the "offensive nature" of his "inexcusable" comments. The email further read, as per the Daily Caller, "Let’s be clear: Rush Limbaugh is advocating for the tolerance of rape." Counters a Limbaugh rep: "We love opinions, but this crossed a very bright line. They quoted something specific and out of context, and it is a lie." His lawyers sent a letter threatening legal action yesterday; he also wants a retraction and apology. But the two sides can't even agree on whether the letter was received, notes the Daily Caller: "The DCCC has not received any correspondence from Mr. Limbaugh or his attorney," says a DCCC spokeswoman, calling "this attack ... as outlandish as his original statement about women." Counters Limbaugh's rep: She "should check her facts, again. I have a delivery receipt from this morning." (More Rush Limbaugh stories.)
