Employees who opened what U-Haul says was a "delinquent storage locker" at a Winnipeg facility made a horrifying find: the bodies of four babies in various stages of decomposition. Police are investigating what sources tell the CBC was a "gruesome" scene, like something out of a horror movie. Persons of interest have been spoken to, although no suspects have been named. A police spokesman says the bodies were of "very, very young infants, not children. Newborns." There have been no reports of missing babies in the Canadian city, he says.
Police are waiting for autopsy results to determine how the infants died and whether they were born alive, the spokesman tells the Winnipeg Free Press. "The remains were in a state such that it's not obvious," he says. "It's too early to say what has transpired." But even if the investigation determines there was no foul play, the police spokesman says there will probably still be criminal charges filed. "You're not allowed to store human remains in a storage locker," he says. (More Canada stories.)
