If you've shopped at a Kmart store in recent weeks, it may be time to check your credit card records: The company is the latest retailer to fall victim to hackers, it says. Hackers apparently got into Kmart's systems in early September; some credit and debit card numbers were breached, parent company Sears Holdings says. The company is working with federal officials to investigate, CNBC reports.
So far, however, findings suggest that "no personal information, no debit card PIN numbers, no email addresses, and no social security numbers were obtained by those criminally responsible," Sears adds. The company says it has gotten rid of the malicious software, the AP reports. The breach targeted physical Kmart stores, not those who shopped on kmart.com or at Sears, CNNMoney reports, Now, Sears says it's "deploying further advanced software to protect our customers' information." The news follows hacks at Home Depot and Target. (More Kmart stories.)
