Ryan Malone scored the game-winning goal with 27 seconds remaining to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers. Malone had tied up the game less than three minutes earlier. Pittsburgh trailed 2-0 entering the third period but Colby Armstrong’s goal cut it to 2-1, then Malone took care of the rest, according to the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • The Bruins allowed the Carolina Hurricanes to score twice in the final 63 seconds of regulation to tie the game but Boston would prevail 3-2 in a shootout. Tim Thomas had 45 saves for the Bruins.
  • Vesa Toskala had 26 saves in the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. All the scoring occurred in the first period.
