Joan Rivers is "resting comfortably" in the hospital with family, daughter Melissa announced late yesterday. But amid reports that the 81-year-old comedian has been placed in a medically induced coma, Melissa Rivers offered no further details about her mother, who reportedly stopped breathing during a routine throat procedure. "I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," she said, per ABC News. "We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers." WABC reports that Rivers is in stable but critical condition.
The FDNY rushed Rivers about a mile from NYC's Yorkville Endoscopy to Mount Sinai Hospital yesterday morning when she went into cardiac arrest during a check of her vocal cords. Just a day previously, Rivers joked about her death onstage. "She said, 'You know I'm 81 years old, and I could drop dead at any moment and you would be so lucky because you will have a story to tell your friends for the rest of your life,'" an audience member tells CNN. "Then she mimicked people talking about what it was like to see her drop dead on stage." (More Joan Rivers stories.)
