Seth Meyers opened tonight's Emmy Awards with quite a few jokes about the fact that the ceremony was held on a Monday night rather than a Sunday night before opening things up to the first presenter: none other than Amy Poehler, who handed out the night's first award, for supporting actor in a comedy, to Modern Family's Ty Burrell. Other awards went to:
- Writing in a Comedy Series: Louis CK, Louie
- Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Allison Janney, Mom
- Directing in a Comedy Series: Gail Mancuso, Modern Family
- Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
- Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
- Reality Competition Program: The Amazing Race
- Miniseries, Movie, or Dramatic Special: Sherlock
- Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie: Kathy Bates, American Horror Story
