Another strange turn for the family linked to the infamous "affluenza" defense. The father of the teen who killed four people while driving drunk but got off with only probation has been charged with impersonating a police officer in Texas, reports DallasNews.com. Police say that when they showed up at a domestic disturbance call in North Richland Hills last month, Fred Couch was already there and identifying himself as a reserve officer in nearby Lakeside.
When officers pressed him on it, Couch grabbed his wallet from his car and showed “what appeared to be a police badge and identification card, suggesting he was a police officer,” says the North Richland Hills department. Officers let him go but kept checking into it, soon discovering that Couch was not a police officer anywhere. He was charged yesterday and released on $2,500 bond, reports CBS Local. Investigators haven't offered a motive. Attorneys for son Ethan argued that his family was so rich, he never learned right from wrong. (More affluenza stories.)
