The iconic, smoky-voiced Lauren Bacall died yesterday at age 89, but her memory will live on in Hollywood—and in the world—forever. Stephen Bogart, her son with the equally legendary Humphrey Bogart, says "her life speaks for itself—she lived a wonderful life, a magical life," reports the New York Times. Other reactions from those mourning the loss of Bacall:
- Both James Caan and Barbra Streisand, who directed Bacall in 1996's The Mirror Has Two Faces, issued statements to Entertainment Weekly. "She was a great, uplifting lady who was full of talent and fun," Caan says, while Streisand adds, "What a terrible loss for us all. … Even with all those great films we can visit again and again, she will be missed."
