Because of a rare brain condition, 6-year-old Lucas Aldrich has a shortened life span and doesn't have the ability to walk, talk, or eat by himself—but the Idaho boy has got a pretty amazing older brother. Noah, 8, is his best friend and tries to involve him in everything he does, including a mini-triathlon in Boise earlier this month, where he pushed and pulled Lucas along the entire course. After initially hearing about the event, "he said, 'Mom, I want to do this with my brother,'" their mother tells KTVB. "That's where the idea was born, and I think the next day we started training."
The boys trained for three months ahead of the race. During the 200-meter swim, Noah wore a harness and pulled Lucas along in a raft. During the 3-mile bike ride, he pulled his brother behind him in a jogging stroller, and during the 1-mile run, he pushed his brother in the stroller, making it over the finish line in 54 minutes. "It was a little nerve-wracking but exciting and exhilarating at the same time," their mom tells the New York Daily News. "And we're definitely proud. As a parent it was a pretty incredible thing to watch." (More uplifting news stories.)
