Two crime-blotter items with unusual modes of transportation and one involving an unusual name highlight this week's list:

  • 'Alpacino' Charged With Murder: Was this guy fated to show up on the police blotter in a bad way? An Oakland man named Alpacino McDaniels—yeah, go back over that first name again—has been charged with murder in a 2013 slaying. If being linked to the Godfather and Scarface weren't enough, his street caused some double-takes, too.
  • Cops: Guy Impersonates Officer During Test Drive: It's one thing to impersonate a police officer and make a traffic stop. It another to do so while on a test drive, with employees from the auto dealership in the car with you. Police say a man in Salem, Oregon, did just that.
  • Cops: Drunk Woman Steals Horse ... to Steal Stuff: A woman in DeKalb County, Ala., was charged with public intoxication and illegal possession of a prohibited beverage, which is pretty routine stuff. It was the part about stealing a horse that made this one special.

  • NYPD Chopper Nearly Hit by 2 Guys With Drones: An NYPD helicopter nearly collided with two drones over the George Washington Bridge this week, resulting in a matching pair of felony reckless-endangerment charges for the two drone operators.
  • Woman Accused of Faking Drowning to Avoid Court: It would normally be good news to learn that a woman feared drowned at Myrtle Beach last weekend didn't die after all. The catch is that Amy Arrington is accused of concocting the story in cahoots with her husband to avoid a court appearance.
