The South Dakota Republican Party has decided Rapid City is the place to get the ball rolling for the impeachment of President Obama. At the party's state convention Saturday, delegates voted 191-176 to impeach the president for violating his oath of office—specifically, by trading five Taliban combatants for captive US soldier Bowe Bergdahl, telling people they could keep their existing health care plans, and for introducing new EPA proposals for power plants, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports. "I've got a thick book on impeachable offenses of the president," said the delegate who introduced the resolution, urging the state to "send a symbolic message that liberty shall be the law of the land."

In response to the resolution, the chair of the state's Democratic Party accused the GOP of ignoring "working families and the middle class" to focus on impeachment, KSFY reports. "Out of touch Tea Party politics aren't going to create good jobs, protect the middle class or grow the economy," she said. The House of Representatives has the power to begin impeachment proceedings, but Kristi Noem, South Dakota's sole representative there, seems unlikely to try. She believes "the best way for Congress to hold the president accountable is to continue aggressive committee oversight and investigations into the administration's actions like the ongoing VA scandal, the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS, Benghazi, and the recent Taliban prisoner exchange," a spokesperson said.
