It’s primary day in Maryland, Virginia, and DC, and opinions vary on which Democratic hopeful truly holds the lead. Here are four outlooks:

  • Barack Obama is surging past Hillary Clinton in this month's races, but their "long and increasingly bitter struggle" may hurt the party's chances in November, Bob Herbert writes in the New York Times.

  • Obama can’t break Clinton's hold on Latinos, women, and lower-income voters, and "buyer’s remorse" may start setting in, Slate's John Dickerson writes.
  • Voters could start to question Obama's claim that he is seeking unity, Jonathan Last writes in the Weekly Standard: What the hopeful really wants is "a liberal majority."
  • Clinton's firing of her Latino campaign manager may weaken Hispanic support, which was 63% on Super Tuesday, says Salon's Alex Koppelman. The head of the DNC’s Hispanic Caucus has already complained.
