David Frum thinks his fellow Republicans are headed for trouble unless things change fast: The party has no leaders willing to stand up to the "radicals" destroying conservatism, he writes in the Atlantic. Eric Cantor is but the latest casualty: He tried to "appease" those on the fringe, but "they turned on him anyway." Frum cites the example of Tony Blair in Britain, who rescued his party "by standing up to its most extreme elements."
Republicans seem unable or unwilling to do the same in this country, and thus they risk losing "the whole conservative project in America to the destructive leadership of fanatics." Where, he wonders, is the type of leadership that Blair exhibited? "If Republicans don’t develop it soon, we might just as well already rename our dysfunctional party the Committee to Elect Hillary Clinton." Click for the full post. (More Republicans stories.)
