Winter weather brought travel to a crawl across the Midwest and Northeast over the weekend. A 68-vehicle chain-reaction crash in Pennsylvania killed one and injured 35, the AP reports. "They had a heavy snow squall going through the area, zero visibility, high winds," said a firefighter at the scene."There were vehicles everywhere." In Wisconsin, authorities closed a stretch of highway near Madison.
Wind chills across many northern states fell to the mid-twenties below zero, and cold-water swimming events and church services alike were canceled. "If you got stuck out there, you'd get cold in a hurry," said a Wisconsin ice fisherman. International Falls, Minn., registered 15 below on the thermometer and 40 below with the wind chill.
